Digital Materiality; Calcium Carbonate and Chestnut composite 3D printable Materials.
We were inspired by locality and seasonality, wanting to represent Barcelona through scent and material. Sustainability is an important factor, these materials are non-toxic composites that are designed for obsolescence, with the shelf life depending on how long the scent lasts. The calcium carbonate and chestnuts can either be returned to the earth or biodegrade, providing nutrients to soil.
Through the mentorship of Coudre Studio, we learnt clay 3D printing fabrication methods and digital fabrication through parametric software; Rhinoceros and Grasshopper and hands-on experimentation. With their guidance we developed 2 materials; Calcium Carbonate composite and Chestnut composite.
